Primary Basketball Tournament

Forty five Year 5 students from Howard Primary, St.Peters Primary and Parish Church came to our Academy Sports Hall today for a Basketball Tournament. The focus of the afternoon was team work and the students worked with our Year 9 Sports Specialism Leaders and Head of PE Mr King to learn new skills. Harris Purley specialises in Sport and Enterprise.

After lunch the students were organised into mixed teams to learn the finer techniques of passing, dribbling and shooting. Our Year 9 Specialism leaders led the teams and were able to demonstrate their skills. The Year 5 worked hard and the competition was on!

Year 9 Sports Specialism leader Kane Heron commented "My group had lots of fun. They enjoyed meeting and working with students from different schools. I got the opportunity to show off my tricks!"

All the teams competed in a mini tournament. Mr King commented "The Year 5's were fully engaged and I was really impressed with their commitment and teamwork. It was an extremely positive atmosphere and the students were clearly enjoying themselves."

At the end of the afternoon we held an awards ceremony. All the students were awarded with a medal, commemorative photograph and certificate.

We look forward to hosting future events for Year 5 and 6 primary students. Especially when our new building and facilities open in September 2012.

Thank you for coming!
