John Holland Talk

On Friday 24th November, ex-professional footballer and former Head of News Gathering at the BBC, John Holland came in to the Academy to talk to our Year 11 students about achieving goals and reaching your potential.

Mr Holland spoke about his early life; playing professional football and the struggles he faced in such a competitive field. He then spoke about his time in charge of news gathering at the BBC and the difficulties of encouraging and supporting those he was responsible for.

Lastly, Mr Holland touched upon his battles with cancer and then having to re-learn how to walk and talk following a stroke. He emphasised that it was his determination and focus that helped him fight the disease and then overcome the odds of recovering from such a significant stroke.

Students then had the opportunity to ask Mr Holland about his life, his career and his outlook on life, which they all found very interesting.

We'd like to thank Mr Holland for coming in to talk to the students and hope our Year 11s found the talk inspirational and motivating for the important years ahead of them!
