Rocket Cars
On Tuesday 20th March, the Royal Air Force popped in to the Academy to help our science department launch the 'rocket cars' our students had designed during British Science Week, the previous week.
The launch involved threading a guide wire through each of the cars (to keep them on track) and then igniting a small charge on the back of each car, which propelled them forward!
Tim and Matt from the RAF were very impressed with the designs and assembly of all the cars, particularly those with bespoke "paint jobs".
A time was recorded for each group's car and the winning group(s) will be announced in the End of Term assembly. Well done to all of the students that took part!
Update 27-03-18
The winning team, whose model car reached a top speed of over 30mph was 'we Da Boss' which was comprised of the following Year 7’s; Maliyka, Jadian, Jessica and Dannina. These 4 girls will now advance to the regional finals, which are on the 25th April at RAF High Wycombe.
