Eating Disorders Assembly
On Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd March 2018, Phoebe from NHS Foundation Trust 'South London and Maudsley' came in to the Academy to talk to our students about eating disorders.
Bulimia was the focus of the assembly, as over 4 million people in the UK currently suffer with the disorder and of them, only a quarter are seeking help or support.
During the assembly, Phoebe talked about the possible causes of Bulimia and whether you can tell if somebody is suffering with it just by looking at them (you can't). She then spoke about the symptoms and what to do if you feel you may have signs of the disorder. These often include binge eating, followed by purging, excessive exercise or the use of laxatives; all of which can be very harmful for your health.
At the end of the assembly, Phoebe stayed behind to answer the student's questions. She also handed out some flyers and posters, which have also been placed around the Academy.
