Manner Farm, Dorking
On Thursday 19th April, Miss Gale took eleven of her Year 10 Food Technology students to Manner Farm in Wooton, Surrey.
The trip enabled students to gain a better understanding of how farms functioned; particularly in relation to raising livestock and growing produce. Food provenance is an important aspect of the Food Technology course, so hearing about the Farm to Fork initiative gave students an invaluable insight into how food can be traced and why that is so important.
While at the farm, students were introduced to Friesian and Belted Galloway calves, born earlier in the year and were taken on guided tours of the farm's facilities and crop fields. While on the tour, students were taught about the Red Tractor Assurance and learned how farmers do everything they can to prevent waste.
Thank you to all of the staff at Manner Farm, it was an informative and enjoyable visit!
