Athens: Day 3

Day three of the Athens tour started with an intense Basketball training session, looking at ball handling and applying that to game situations. The boys then enjoyed a football training session, preparing them for their first fixtures later that day!

The Under 16 team were first up and started strongly. Long balls were played in to speedy Tarik, making it very difficult for the opposition to defend. There were some impressive turns and tricks in the middle of the pitch from Dylan, keeping the opponents on their toes. Amaru was kept busy in goal, but made some incredible saves to keep HAPU in the game. Sadly we did not finish with a win, but the team showed great spirit throughout the match and played fantastic until the final whistle.

Next up was the Under 14 team. From the get go it was difficult for the opposition to match the speed of Antwone, Kian and Naz’si. Aaran and Bailey were strong centre backs and made it almost impossible for the opposition to break through. Dylan was excellent in a holding midfield position; offering quick attacking passes and a strong defence when needed. Crosses and free kicks from Jayden gave Norbert and the team great opportunities to test their defence and keeper. Finally, just before the full time whistle and after numerous chances, Naz’si scored! The goal - HAPU's first of the tour - was met with cheers and a pitch invasion to celebrate. Again, the team showed incredible determination and team spirit throughout the game.

After the game, the students met students from the local Greek teams, which resulted in a lot of photos being taken!

More to come...
