Harris Academies
All Academies in our Federation aim to transform the lives of the students they serve by bringing about rapid improvement in examination results, personal development and aspiration.

Support Staff

In addition to the whole-Academy CPD sessions, we put on CPD sessions specific to support staff. These training sessions are in response to what support staff have told us that they need/would like when they completed a needs-analysis at the beginning of the academic year, along with statutory requirements and Academy priorities.

The CPD programme is fully appreciative that not all support staff are able to attend the CPD sessions on Monday between 3.00pm and 4.00pm due to specific roles and differing contracted working hours. For support staff, in addition to providing another opportunity to attend these sessions at a more convenient time during the working week and through recordings of the CPD sessions, a flexible online CPD training course brochure has been developed. The courses are available for staff to choose throughout the academic year to ensure that they have achieved quality CPD that is relevant to their role. All of our online CPD courses are accredited by the CPD Certification Service and those which are related to Health and Safety are approved by ROSPA too. Although our Online CPD offer is comprehensive, there will be areas of training that are not listed. Additional training courses are also available through the Harris Federation Health and Safety Judicium too. If there is a course that staff wish to undertake and it is not listed, they can contact Mr Childs to organise it.

  • How to Manage Performance Reviews

All 37 support staff have taken the opportunity to complete an online course this academic year. Support staff also complete an Action Research Project based on their Online CPD Course(s) to identify what the course was about, what they took away from it and implemented into their day-to-day practice, and the impact of it on their role.


On Friday 10th February, whilst all teaching staff were involved in Subject Specific CPD at sites across the Federation, we bought in a 3-hour CPD session run by FixUp Seminars. This gave Support Staff the opportunity to cover the following three areas (1 hour on each):

  • Empowerment
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Teamwork

The feedback from Support Staff was amazing, with comments including:

“I really enjoyed this session with Fixup.  It was amusing at times (the facts that some of us shared were funny) and thought provoking at others (there were even a few tears).  I came in just after the session had started so missed the gentleman’s name, but think that he would be really good with the students as he seemed to know their language and has also had a tough time as a youngster/young man himself, so could relate to them more easily than perhaps us ‘oldies’ can”.

“What a brilliant speaker, he was very motivational, he should come and speak to our students and teaching staff. Well worth a morning’s listening, one of the best insets I have been to. Thank you for organising it”.

“Thank you for arranging an outstanding Inset morning for us it: really was an excellent session. Motivational, emotional (a real bonding teamwork section) and informative too”.

“Thought I’d give some feedback on the session today. ABSOLUTLY FABULOUS, INSPIRING, MOTIVATIONAL AND EMOTIONAL.  I truly believe Teaching Staff should have this session rolled out to them if not already done, it may open eyes to the life circumstances to some of our students and how circumstances impact on Achievement, Attendance and Behaviour.  The session was well worth my time.  Thank you for arranging this”.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the session, the speaker was really engaging. I do believe, if possible, a session should be arranged for him to come in to speak to the students”.
