Mr Golbey
I was in another industry for over 20 years and really loved my job...
I always enjoyed the training and development aspect, seeing how people progressed within an organisation over time. I also have a passion for discovering new places and finding out about how people interact within their environment. In a moment of clarity, I realised that I could combine these passions and use my geography degree to become a teacher.
I joined Harris Academy Purley because I liked the diverse setting of the school and the values that the Harris Federation uphold. It is also far enough away from my house that I won’t get students knocking on my door asking for extra homework.
Compared to other schools I’ve worked in, HAPU has a very modern feel about it. The classrooms are large and well presented, this adds to the positive atmosphere. The students are very well behaved and are a delight to teach.
We have many training and development opportunities. The support here is first class within all departments and for each faculty. Policies are fair and clear and if anyone has any questions about anything there are many people you can turn to for help. Training is also strong within the academy and the federation. The regular Harris bulletin keeps us all up to date with news and CPD opportunities within the network.
If someone was thinking about applying for a job here, I’d tell them that HAPU has amazing students who really thrive in our positive learning climate. Staff are well supported, and they would get to work with a mix of experienced and newer teachers. We will all make you feel incredible welcomed and part of the team on day one.
