Uniform & Equipment

At Harris Academy Purley we have high expectations of all, in everything we do. This includes personal appearance. Uniform plays an important role in establishing the ethos of our school.

We believe that our uniform policy benefits the school in a number of ways:

• it encourages identification with the school and nurtures the notion of community
• it protects students from social pressures to dress in a particular way
• it supports discipline and good behaviour and ensures the health and safety of students
• it instils a sense of pride in the school 
• it promotes more effective teaching and learning

Full cooperation with our dress code enables staff to concentrate their time and effort on teaching and learning. The decision about what is and is not acceptable will always remain with the school. Students are expected to adhere to the uniform rules on the journey to and from school, as well as on the Academy site. 

Pre-loved Uniform

Uniform can be an expensive investment, which is why the Academy appreciates any donations of pre-loved uniform such as ties, trousers, academy jumpers and blazers. If you would be willing to donate any used items, or you are interested in purchasing items, please contact our Admissions team.

Official uniform supplier

Several items on our uniform list is only available from our official uniform supplier, stevensons.co.uk. These items have embroidery and printed logos that are only used by our academy. The section below outlines which items can only be purchased through Stevensons. All other items can be purchased from a retailer of your choosing. The items listed are mandatory unless stated otherwise.

• Academy V-neck jumper (navy with a yellow trim) - this item is optional
• Academy PE Polo Neck (white with a printed badge)

Can be purchased from any retailer (providing it complies with the policy):

• Plain white collared and buttoned shirt or blouse (long or short sleeved)
• Plain black trousers or pleated skirt (regular or classic fit)
• Plain black leather (or faux) shoes
• Plain black crew socks
• Plain black or skin-coloured tights - this item is optional
• Plain black leather belt - this item is optional
• Plain navy sports shorts for PE
• Plain white crew socks for PE
• Plain navy knee-length socks for PE
• Plain white trainers (non-marking sole) for PE
• Skin pads and gum shield for PE
• Plain black backpack suitable for A4 exercise books and equipment

Equipment you must bring each day

Students are expected to attend lessons with the appropriate equipment. The basic equipment list consists of:

• at least two black or blue ball point pens (biros)
• a green ball point pen (biro)
• a pencil
• a sharpner
• a rubber/eraser
• a ruler
• a compass
• a protractor
• a glue stick
• a calculator
• a pencil case

Other subjects may require subject-specific equipment. Failure to produce the required equipment at the start of a lesson will result in a sanction. 

Students should also carry a copy of their timetable to ensure they know where they need to be at all times of the day. This will also allow staff to direct them to lessons if challenged on the corridor.
