Government's proposals to change food standards in schools
In April 2026, the government made proposals to change the standards of food available to children in schools. This would affect school dinners offered at Harris Academy Purley.
According to the new proposals our caterers, Impact, would no longer be able to offer unhealthy 'grab and go' foods like sausage rolls and pizza every day. Very sugary desserts would also be limited to once a week and replaced with fruit for most of the week instead. The new plans are also pushing for more vegetables and whole grains to be used for the meals in a bid to improve children's health and nutrition.
We encourage families to read through the government's proposals and leave some feedback through the government website: here.
