Studying Economics through our rigorous, broad curriculum will allow students to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the world we live in. The decisions that are made by individual consumers, as well as the impact of government decision and policy upon our daily lives.
During their course of study, students will be encouraged to develop a critical approach to economic models and methods of enquiry. They will gain a good knowledge of developments in the UK economy and government policies over the past fifteen years.
Students will be encouraged to look beyond their own context and develop their understanding of the UK and the rest of the world, through current affairs. Not only this but looking forward to make rational economic assumptions as to the impact of current events on the future. Students will gain the tools to develop a long term perspective.
Students will be expected to acquire competence in quantitative skills that are relevant to the subject content and be familiar with the various types of statistical and other data which are commonly used by economists. They should be able to make relevant calculations from economic data and be able to interpret data. Students should understand the role of evidence in economic decision making but should appreciate the importance of value judgements.
